Understanding BOSS Snowplow Tripping Systems

BOSS Snowplow uses three types of tripping systems: Trip-Edge, Full-Trip, and Dual-Trip. Learn how they work and discover which one best fits your needs below.

Trip-Edge

For the 2025-26 season, BOSS Snowplow introduced the TEV, its first Trip-Edge V-Plow. Trip-edge plows are widely used in the industry because they allow the cutting edge to trip over low-profile obstacles without losing the snow load.

Common obstacles that trip-edge plows encounter include manhole covers, large cracks in pavement, and speed bumps. When a trip-edge plow encounters a hidden obstacle, the lower edge "gives way" to absorb the impact, reducing potential damage to your truck or equipment.

Full-Trip

BOSS Full Moldboard Trip Plows feature a heavy-duty tripping system that allows the full moldboard to trip forward when hitting larger obstacles, such as curbs, storm drains, and frozen snowbanks. 

This system provides higher impact absorption, ensuring smooth operation even on unpredictable surfaces and environments. 

One of the most popular full-trip plows, the BOSS XT, features:

Dual-Trip

BOSS is the exclusive provider of Dual-Trip DXT Plows, which combine trip-edge and full-trip technology to offer the best of both worlds.

How the DXT works:

• When a low-profile obstacle (e.g., manhole covers, cracks) is encountered, only the trip-edge gives way, keeping your snow load intact.
• When a larger obstacle (e.g., curbs, frozen snowbanks) is hit, the entire plow trips forward to absorb the impact, reducing strain on you and your equipment.

The BOSS DXT is engineered for maximum protection and durability, featuring:
